Neurodegenerative Diseases in Wild Game Hunters: Dementia and Prions Lead Investigator: Allie Skinner Institution : Westminster College E-Mail : ajs0527@westminstercollege.edu Proposal ID : 1320 Proposal Description: 1) The goals of the proposed research are to compare MRI and other diagnostic test results between patients diagnosed with prion diseases and Alzheimer's disease to identify patterns and similarities in diseases to understand if AD and prion diseases are different or likely the same disease. Another goal is to compare the progression of both prions and AD and measure prevalence by state and/or county. Data will be compared to hunting data by state and/or county to examine possible correlations and gain insight into public health risks related to hunting. 2) Specific objectives include: -Testing a stated hypothesis -Creating a novel design for predictive modeling of nutrition and development of AD and prion diseases -Challenge an existing AD hypothesis and transmission hypothesis -Address a critical barrier to progress in the field which exists between literature, research, and funding
